About Violetta
Violetta measures 178 cm, tall and slender, and nobody here is taller. She has never apologised for either fact. Her black hair is long and sleek, straight to the ends. Her brown eyes give away only what she has decided to give. She wears black and gold in the evening and very little else, and she has the stillness of someone who knows that standing quietly in a doorway is enough.
She is thirty. In English she is drily funny, so drily that the joke often lands a second after she has moved on. She reads, she swims long slow lengths in the mornings and she is genuinely interested in comedy, which she goes to see in small rooms where the acts are new and frequently terrible. She is mysterious for about an hour and then good company for the rest of the evening. She is not aloof, she is simply slow to arrive, and the second hour is worth the first.
Belgravia is home and Amaya, in the Halkin Arcade off Motcomb Street, is where she takes a guest: an open grill, a high ceilinged room, and food she can order well without making a performance of it. It is five minutes from her own door and ten from most of the hotels around the square. She likes the arcade at night, quiet and covered, with the shops lit and nobody in them. She asks for a table at the side, away from the grill, and she is right about that too.
Three hours and longer is where she is best. She is asked for in Belgravia and the streets towards Knightsbridge. Name the date in a message and the desk will confirm her that day.

Booking her evening
Violetta prefers dinner bookings of three hours or more, arranged a day or two ahead. She is comfortable with quiet evenings and with events that require standing about politely.
Her figures are the house figures, printed in full on the rates page, and the whole arrangement runs in one thread from the first line to the confirmation.

An evening with Violetta
Violetta's evening begins slowly and deliberately. A drink where you are staying, an hour in which she says perhaps forty words, and a guest gradually working out that she is not bored but simply not in a hurry.
Dinner under the high ceiling in the arcade is where she opens up. She orders confidently, hands you the wine list with a warning that she will comment afterwards, and produces one dry remark per course, timed so that you laugh late. Afterwards the covered arcade is empty and lit and takes thirty seconds to walk, which she will stretch to five minutes. At the hotel the mystery gives way to warm, calm, quietly funny company until the agreed end of the evening.
Violetta, in her own words
One person, one microphone, no second attempt. I admire it more than almost any other work.
For about an hour. After that I am fairly easy to read and rather less impressive.
Constantly. Nobody has ever asked me to hurry, and I cannot be lost in a crowd. It also means nobody ever hurries me, and I have never been the person in a room asking what time it is.

In the margin
The remarks card for Violetta is still blank, which is usually what discretion looks like. A note appears here only when a guest writes one, she agrees to it, and the house has checked that it reads as a first name, a month and nothing private.
