About Sonya
Thirty-two suits Sonya, and she has no interest in rounding it down. She is 162 cm and athletic, hazel eyed, with dark brown hair worn long and straight. She dresses in deep colours, burgundy and black, cut close and never fussy, and she moves like someone who trains without talking about it. She is small and entirely unmissable, which is a combination she has had a long time to get used to. She keeps her hair long and straight and has worn the same scent for a decade.
She speaks English and nothing else, and she is direct in it. Her view of a wine, a hotel or a plan arrives briefly and without apology, and she is right often enough that guests give up arguing. Underneath the directness she is warm and rather protective. She swims most mornings, reads biographies, and has a low opinion of anybody who is rude to staff. She is protective of a guest who is out of his depth in a formal room, and she makes it look effortless.
Her Knightsbridge evening is a serious dinner. Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, on the Knightsbridge side facing the park, is the room she chooses: a long view over the trees, a menu with a sense of humour buried in it, and service that is formal without being stiff. She lives a few streets away. Afterwards there is the park across the road, dark and enormous, and she likes to stand and look at it for a minute before the taxi. She likes the corner tables and asks for one by name.
She takes dinner bookings and overnight evenings. Hotels and residences throughout Knightsbridge and along the park make up her ordinary week. Send a date and the nights she has free come straight back.

Booking her evening
Sonya takes evenings of two hours or more. A table facing the park is worth arranging a day or two ahead, and she will say so plainly if it is not available.
Her figures are the house figures, printed in full on the rates page, and the whole arrangement runs in one thread from the first line to the confirmation.

An evening with Sonya
Sonya's evening is straightforward and very well run, largely because she runs it. A drink at your hotel, twenty minutes, and a clear sense by the end of it of what you want from the night.
Dinner over the park is her one indulgence and she takes it seriously: a long menu, a proper wine, an opinion on both. She is funny in a dry, unsparing way, and she is genuinely good company for anyone who is tired of being agreed with. Afterwards she likes a minute at the railings looking into the dark before the taxi comes. At the hotel she is warm, unhurried and entirely present, and she leaves when she said she would. Nothing about the night will have been left to chance, and none of it will have felt arranged.
Sonya, in her own words
Yes, and it saves everybody an hour. I am kind about it, but I will not pretend.
Occasionally, usually from men who are older than me. Thirty-two is not a secret.
Whatever the kitchen is proudest of, and one glass of something I have not had before. I ask what has just come into the kitchen and I order that, which has gone wrong perhaps twice in my life and made the evening every other time.

In the margin
The remarks card for Sonya is still blank, which is usually what discretion looks like. A note appears here only when a guest writes one, she agrees to it, and the house has checked that it reads as a first name, a month and nothing private.
